  • French square format, like our traditional switches
  • Two buttons, which can control several pieces of equipment
  • Cordless and battery-free!

After the test of the Philips Hue Smart Button, I propose today to discover another switch in square format, compatible with our French flush-mounted boxes. This one has been made by Nodon, that we know well here for its Zwave, EnOcean, and now ZigBee modules. This switch has been made as part of “Friends of Hue”, which allows third party manufacturers to create products compatible with the Philips Hue eco-system. In addition to being able to replace our traditional switches, this Nodon switch offers a very interesting feature, as it works wirelessly and without batteries, just like Philips' first round remote control. So you can install it anywhere. Let's find out more about it today…

The latest Philips Hue peripherals: the Smart Button, the Nodon switch, and the Philips Hue power outlet.

I. Nodon Friends of Hue Unboxing

Unlike the “official” Philips Hue products, this new button is presented in a very light packaging, presented in a simple plastic pouch. It won't be a bad thing to reduce our packaging volume :p Inside, we simply find the switch, accompanied by a small leaflet.

This Nodon Friends of Hue switch is completely based on the design we already knew from the Zwave and EnOcean versions. A very classic look: a white plate, 8 cm on each side and 15mm thick, with two buttons.

This switch can be glued in place using the double-sided adhesive already in place, or screwed to the wall using the notches provided:

The two switches can be disassembled to reveal the ZigBee module, operating without batteries or wires:

This technology is based on the well-known EnOcean protocol, but applied here to the ZigBee: pressing one of the buttons will generate the little energy necessary for the electronics to send its radio signal, and thus control the associated lighting. No wires, which allows you to place the switch where you want, and no batteries, so it requires no maintenance!

Let's move on to his physical installation…
