If there's one thing that Philips Hue cruelly lacked, it's a French switch! A remote control with a bracket has been available for a very long time, but in US format, which made it impossible to place it over an existing switch, except through a sometimes unsightly adapter. Good news, Philips Hue unveiled a few weeks ago a wireless switch in French format, which can finally replace our traditional switches: the Philips Hue Smart Button. “Smart”, because in addition to being connected, it embeds well thought-out intelligent functions!

I. Philips Hue Smart Button Unboxing

This new button is presented in a packaging faithful to the brand, which leaves no doubt about its compatibility. Inside, we find the switch, a small metal support, and a manual.

This Philips Hue Smart Button has a very classic look: a white plate, 7.5cm on each side, with a round button in the middle:

The plate is about half a centimeter thick:

But the little originality is that the central button is magnetic: it can therefore be removed from the board to be used as a remote control wherever you want, a bit like the SmartPebble that Awox had made.

The button itself is very small. But it's the one that holds all the electronics, the board being only a plastic support. Like the first full-length remote control, this smart button works on battery (2 years autonomy) and communicates in ZigBee.

This plate can be glued using the double-sided adhesive already in place, or screwed to the wall using the notches provided:

The plate can be disassembled in two parts for assembly:

Note that a small round metal support is also delivered, allowing you to “glue” the Smart Button anywhere: on the door of a fridge for example, but also anywhere, even non-metallic, by simply sticking this small round base. We will see a more concrete example later…

Let's move on to his physical installation…
